Biography

Penny is an Artist, Illustrator and Educator graduating from Falmouth University this year with an MA in illustration. Her practice has developed through being informed by her research in to psychology, heritage and culture combined with immersion in nature. Penny explores nature journalling which informs her mark making, visual language and chosen media.
Penny’s work brings together analogue and digital skills such as Painting, photography, drawing, gold leaf/gilding as well experimental lensless photography techniques such as cyanotype.
Penny has recently taken a break from working in secondary education, where she was most recently leading a high performing art and photography department, to further expand her artistic practice and publish her work, she will continue to consult and advise departments using her expert knowledge. Her experience of working with young people, and as a mother, also underpin some of the concepts in her prints and illustrations in an effort to capture the humour and love in intergenerational relationships in modern society.

Career History

Penny recently chose to pursue the development of her own practice through additional study At Falmouth University by studying an MA in Illustration which she completed in May 2023. During and prior to this she has been working as a Teacher since 2010 and more recently a Head of department, leading a department in both Art and Photography until summer 2023.

AccessArt ‘Join the dots’ speaker, which involved writing and presenting a teams talk given to members online in July 2023 in order to encourage more cohesion in arts learning between key stages.

Collaborations and hosted workshops in school include working with; Justin Quinnell (over the years), Ian Murphy (2022 & 2023) and Sidmouth School of Art and David Shrigley (2021) Sidmouth School of Art David Shrigley as well as community projects with the Lions club, Sidmouth in Bloom, and many others
