Cyanotypes

One of the earliest forms of photography in vented by John Hershel and pioneered by Anna Atkins, also with one of the least toxic photography processes

The process hasn’t changed much since it was invented and involves mixing an emulsion and coating a surface before exposing to light. I prefer to use botanical subject matter in its original form ( after some manipulation), thus by avoiding the extra use of photography and printing to make the process more environmentally friendly, as well as natural sunlight minimising energy and consumption on the environment.

Prints are made on 300gsm watercolour paper, giving the surface a fine or rough texture.

My favourite part os the process is the wash, whereby the image starts to appear small judgements made in the emulsion application and exposure stages become visible to the eye.
